What are environment variables, like the executable path, and how can i change and use them on major operating systems? Jun 16, 2010what does "/" , "./", "../" represent while giving path? "/"is a path which begins with a /, and thus it is an absolute path.

Sep 29, 2011in windows 7, when i start the command prompt, is there any command to display the contents of an environment variable (such as the java_home or path variables)? It's not an executable present in path, it's a command that bash has built-in in itself).
